This is How Design Saves

MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières) or Doctors Without Borders has set up inflatable hospitals in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The hospital will provide 100 beds to many of those wounded in the earthquake. MSF also has more than 700 staff members on site to provide assistance.

MSF Logistics Supervisor - Laurent Dedieu

"9 tents, 100 beds, including hospitalization and ICU and recovery beds. A triage and emergency tent, and two operations theatres. The idea is that within the tent we have a complete kit we can deploy including energy supply, water supply, all the sanitation, and all medical equipment inside the tent. In Haiti, everything needed to run a hospital including beds and biomedical equipment is included.

We want to be as autonomous as possible with regard to energy. In this case we have one 30 KV generator and one 60 KV generator. Plus an electrical board, and equipment to ensure electrical safety. And then you have all the electrical wire you need to set up lights inside the ward, and set up plugs for the medical equipment."

Signs of Hope

Hello 2010,

To post about nonsensical designer items during times of despair is something I don't want to do. Instead I will be showcasing how people are helping one another. There is design with purpose and worth praise. Let me start highlighting the real designers and the real architects.

I am done slaving for the rich. I want to help the people. I want my designs to save lives.

Lets be progressive! God is the original architect/designer. Amen!

Jesus Walk With Me!!

I would appreciate it if one of my favorite musicians bounces back and make inspirational/positive music like he did with Jesus Walks. Look at some of the lyrics.

We at war with terrorism, racism, and most of all we at war with ourselves

God show me the way because the Devil trying to break me down
The only thing that that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now
And I don't think there is nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
I want to talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long

They say you can rap about anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played Huh?
Well let this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
Then I hope this take away from my sins

Enough with the heartbreak music, lets get back to what is right. To serve the Lord and grow his kingdom. I try to avoid all the bad music on radio, but oftentimes there is so much I just turn it off. I'm I the only one finding evil everywhere I turn to? I do appreciate Ricky Smiley and Steve Harvey but can DJ Laz put some more gospel into his shows?

Last Rights in Miami!

Everybody wants to design clothing for the uber-kool crowd... many of them fail. Only Last Rights has taken the identity that is Miami and has unleashed an incredible collection of art and clothing that easily stands out among others.

The Dolphin logo being transformed into a weapon reveals a part of Miami that is otherwise hidden behind the fun and sun.

The other great thing that Last Rights do is use the dilapitated areas of Miami and transform them into movies and photoshoots.

The Winter 09 shoot is taken at an abandoned motel/apartment complex with a character that goes about exploring and terrorizing the building. Tons of these building lay abused and in shambles all over Miami (i.e. Biscayne Blvd.) with no direction of improvement or use. What people forget is that movies, tv shows, commercials, fashion shoots are always scouting for locations. Why not open all these places for the arts and entertainment. Last Rights even uses the controversial Miami Marine Stadium to shoot their Summer 09 collection with local rapper Brisco. Brilliant! Here's another location that is available > the empty condos all over Downtown Miami, pick one.

The Life of a Designer is a Beautiful Nightmare :l

The information on this chart doesn't seem realistic in my opinion. Look at the difference between an interior designer with a masters and then with a PHD. And you can't be an architect with only a high school degree.

This chart didn't pertain to me an architect as I experienced international (Dubai) payday. Blows the 1-4 yrs average out of the water. I am getting into Design Management; looks good from this chart.

Ouch. Almost everyone took a hit in 2008.

Well, the design profession is still tough. But being part of a creative crowd, we will find a way to leave our mark. We don't design for the money or the glory. We just want to help people and design cool stuff while doing it.

In Miami, the renovation and retro-fitting market is doing great but it is very competitive. I am looking into stretching out into the rest of Florida and beyond. All from the comfort of my office and wi-fi (starbucks perhaps).

Good luck Comrades. Design as if you are designing for God.

Black Eyed Peas + LMFAO !!

I have been moving away from "Hip-Hop" lately but thank God that BEP also feels the need to experiment with different genres. Been a fan before the stardom and continue to enjoy their songs. The LMFAO is a great feel-good, love positive song. Thats all.

Enjoy Krystina!!

Never Ending Story!!

Though vague about how the apparatus connects and loads from online searching, it is interesting to experience the potential of information found online. The machine creates a fluid visual story with drawings from patents.

Tooth-Eye Technology!

Science + technology is coming up with some incredible procedures! Doctors from the University of Miami helped a woman regain most of her sight by removing a tooth, drilling a hole in it, inserting a lens, then placing it in her eye!!

I am not sure how they thought of it but it is great to see how the human body is capable of healing itself. Ill!
